Kindergarten Geography Unit

  •

With the abeka program we are using they touch upon world geography and the United States for a few lessons. They have a couple worksheets on the maps and things. It is a nice introduction. All the pages are brightly colored and fun for kids! To build upon this unit we added in some more fun assignments for added learning. So, if you don’t have the abek program, you could just use the content below. But if you have the abeka K5 program and want to supplement it then you could do so with some of these fun hands on activities.

PBS Kids App: Luna’s Seek and Find!

In the PBS kids app (or computer game) they have a great game called Luna’s Seek and find. It has 5 awesome cities that the kids can virtual “tour” and play games in. They get to find things within the city that are relivent to the culture there. Many of these things are special foods, flags, or other national landmarks. It is a really cute game because Luna tells the kids different facts about the city throughout their game/tour. These are fun games and really easy for kids to be able to do on their own. And they are FREE! It is hard to pass up a free resource like this! You can look through the following gallery and see some of this great game!

United States Puzzles

These are great hands on homeschool activities for kids! Especially kids who love puzzles! We have a few United’s states map puzzles but we also have this puzzle that has many of the famous US landmarks on it! It is just a fun way to become familiar with these great places. You can find a really great United States Puzzle on Amazon here!

Bring on the Art: Drawing the Globe

This art tutorial was a little advanced for kindergarten, but it was still a really fun experience! It comes from the Art Hub’s Youtube channel. You can see it on their channel here. Another free resource for the Kindergarten Geography Unit which is so much fun and hard to pass up! Below is our art work with some of the drawing supplies we like to use.

Virtual Field Trips

You can also do a variety of virtual fields trips with the kids free on YouTube as part of Geography class. They have free virtual tours of the Washington monument, which we did as part of the George Washington lesson you can check out here. To teach the kids a little bit more about the world you can take them on some of these awesome virutal tours, these are just a few we have scene:

This is quite the random assortment of virtual field trip experiences now that I look at them all together. But for kindergarten this is just a really fun time! Add in a few 4k Disney rides and water slide for good measure if you like. Also, Blippi has some great “field trip like experiences for the kids!

Fifty Nifty United States

One of our favorite songs for geography is the fifty nifty united states song! If you haven’t heard of it then you can check it out in this YouTube video!
