Happy Election Day! It is such a big day for American! American was founded as a nation under GOD. Recently we did the the abeka video unite on george washington which was great!
Abeka Academy Lesson:
This lesson talked all about George Washington the leader, the faithful God follower, and the honest man. It went on to talk about how he became our first president. The kiddos got to do a page about george washington and then a dot-to-dot of the washington monument! I really have been loving their social studies program for kids. I was sceptical about they way it started out but then when it dove into american history I really started to like it! If you need a good kids history book…Abeka K5 Social Studies. We decided to step this lesson up a step further with some fun artistic supplements!
Quarter Rub:
Since George Washington is on the quarter we did a fun quarter rub with a variety of cool state quarters. We used crayola crayons for this one! We love to make these mother daughter activities and I do them along with her. We recently got a set of metallic crayola crayons and we are loving them. They aren’t featured on the blog yet, but we will show them in future projects, you can get some here!.
Virtual Field Trip!
While we were doing the quarter rub we were watching a few fun virtual tours of the Washington Monument. We got to learn a little bit more about the history of it and what the inside looks like. I have seen it in person, but the inside was closed to the public when I went. BUT it was long before my daughter was born, so she has never seen it. Here is one of the tours we took!
Drawing the Washington Monument!
Do bring some fun art into this unit (since my daughter loves art) we did a art tutorial video on how to draw the Washington monument. You can find it on YouTube here! It was so easy! We also love these erasable crayola colored pencils for projects like these! They are great if you accidentally color out of the lines! You can grab a set here!
There you have it, if you are looking for a fun election day kindergarten (or elementary aged) unite do do with the kiddos then you now have just a few fun project ideas! Happy Election Day!
