It is the 30th Anniversary of shark week in case you haven’t already heard. I’m so excited about this year’s shark week because my daughter is finally old enough that I can share parts of it with her. The past couple of years I’ve just been tuning in here and their after she goes to sleep and I’ve missed alot.
I still definitely have to sensor the things she sees, but on the pre-shark week shows today she got to learn alot about sharks and ocean life.
For example:
She got to learn that baby lemon sharks are called pups. That Manta Ray’s can jump out of the water. That ragged tooth sharks live in huge ship wrecks, and that some shark eggs are spirels.
And, before you scoff that I’m being selfish she actually really liked the programs. She would beg me to turn it back to the sharks, when I would flip the channel back to Disney Junior. I would flip when something that she didn’t really need to see was about to come on. For another example like sea turtles being eaten, or shark mating.
Seeing shark week come around again this year makes me think of the days I longed to be a marine Biology and go out on the open ocean in search of ocean creatures to research. It was a dream of mine, but alas I chose a different root.
For shark week we got some fun supplies for crafts and sensory activities, to celebrate.
Things like stickers, fish, blue jello, a ball with a shark in it. AND I even found toddler girl shark undies at Gymboree. I Just had to get them for her!
