Today’s post is all about our paint your own pottery shop and our mother daughter date there. Its such a fun date, but don’t worry, if you don’t have a paint your own pottery shop! Stay tuned because at the end of this post we have a special section on date ideas just for people who don’t have paint their own pottery shops locally! Now lets jump right into our good time!
My daughter and I took a trip to our local paint your own potter shop around Easter (yea I know this blog is a little late). Anyhow this was by no means our first time going, but we had decided to have a mommy daughter Friday night date. When we go we usually pick up something cheap and small to paint because let’s just admit up front that the attention span of a three-year-old in a shop full of things she can’t touch isn’t very long. We went in and picked out a four-dollar Easter egg paint an then she picked out her colors.
We sat down at a table to paint said egg, and the lady who works there brought us cups of water for our brushes, and a paper plate for our paints. The last time we were there they used ceramic clear glazed tiles for the paint so using a paper plate was a little odd. I am thinking they probably go tired of cleaning the tiles. My daughter decided it would be a good idea to put her egg on the plate to paint it. She absolutely hates when she gets paint on the table there, it’s one of those many small things that bothers her. So, she painted her egg on the paper plate, about a whole two brush strokes worth. THEN she painted the paper plate, which I know is a complete waste of glaze.
This painted lasted for about 5 minutes while I took a wide variety of adorable photos. Then she gets up from her chair (egg only having two brush strokes on it) and heads for the door announcing she is ready to leave. I go grab her and try to convince her/ bargain with her to finish painting the egg. And while she sits there and stares at it I quickly add some more color to it. When I turn it over to paint the bottom half of it she then gets a little more enthused and grabs two brushes, one for each hand and starts painting with both hands. After another five or ten minutes we are done painting, and take our paints back to the wrack. We pay for the piece and collect the one we painted the previous trip, then we are out the door.
The good news about this trip is that we actually painted a piece, but I had to help more than I like to, and it almost didn’t get painted at all. This date was a little more of a flop to though because she was pretty impatient throughout the process and the date didn’t last very long. But some bonding time is better than none I guess.
I still can’t wait for our next pottery painting date, even though it was a bit short. I just love the atmosphere of these shops!
