DIY Paper Instruments For Kids

  •

My daughter came up with this little craft all on her own! Over the course of just a few weeks she had assembled quite the collection of paper instruments to go along with the little toy instruments we have for music class. Some of them where inspired by TV shows and others were more traditional instruments you might play during a music class. Today I’m going to be taking you on a tour of four of the instruments she made because she did such a good job with them!

These are also great STAY AT HOME activities for kids to do this fall if you are looking for something fun to do, that is also out of all the crowds. You could even do these over Zoom Chats with cousins who live far away! Alright, lets dive right in!

Paper Drum:

This is one of those classic instruments I mentioned earlier. We just set it on the floor and tap on it during music class. It sounds like a paper tap. It is drawn on a single sheet of white copy paper with a black marker and then colored in with crayons.

Paper DJ Mix Board

Are your kiddos into the Trolls? Well my daughter loves watching them on Netflix. I think their are like five seasons. But there are also three trolls movies released in various places…you’ve probably heard of them. They are such happy little creatures and they are always singing and dancing about. They are also always using a DJ board. SO, now we have a paper DJ Mix Board for music class.

Paper Piano with NOTES:

Here we have a paper Piano with notes. This one is a little more 3D than the others we have featured today. After the kiddos make their piano keys and notes help them fold the notes up so it looks like they are resting against the back of the piano. It ends up being an L shape when you are finished.

The Piano Guitar:

Do you recognize this one? Maybe not because it is a little harder to spot, not being in the exact colors and all. Also, I don’t know if the TV show is as popular in other households. BUT this is KING JULIEN’s guitar from the All Hail King Julien Netflix series. He plays a kids piano guitar combo that washed up on the shores of Madagascar and surprisingly still works. My daughter LOVES it. This toy on amazon HERE is about the closest thing I can find to something that even looks kinda similar to what is on the show. This one is defiantly the prize of the collection!

Make this a Social Distancing Activity:

There are so many fun ways you could make this craft into a social distancing activity this fall to help stop the spread of covid. For example,

  • We made some of ours at home as mother daughter activities (like the dj and the piano). But you could also…
  • Have a FREE ZOOM chat with cousins and each cousin design their own instrument and them play them over zoom together. The free zoom limits groups of 3 or more to 40 minutes so, you know you wouldn’t have to be on all day. Just a fun little play date.
  • Make it a family activity and each member of the family designs an instrument (better for families with more than one child at home).
  • Zoom Chat with friends and make them.
  • Put on a show for grandparents over video if you haven’t gotten to see them in awhile.

Anyway just a few fun ideas to do with your paper instruments!
