Three weeks in isolation, it is now 22 days in. At this point I find myself starting to talk in the dialect of an old English romance novel. They have been my escape as of late. While I wasn’t a flamboyant debut in my college days (more of a wallflower), I find it is still nice to escape, and believe it or not, getting lost in a book and their conversations makes me feel like I am actually talking to someone. The only “adult” conversations that happen anymore around my home mainly center around coronavirus. Of course, the conversations with my daughter are as anyone would expect the conversations with a child to be as I can imagine, imaginative.
Dealing with Isolation:
I have been faring well with the social distancing for the most part. I wasn’t that big of a talker as it was. More of a listener. Up until my last face to face college days three weeks ago I had several conversations a week with people around my lab and my teams. Not much past that. It is not even like I miss it. As far as just the “isolation” and social distancing thing is going, I am coping just fine. I think it is because I have lived this lifestyle before and was never quite able to get out of it. I am more of an introvert anyways, so I come by the social distancing lifestyle naturally.
This weekend is wearing on me though because it has been constant drama. My daughter has turned into a drama queen. It occurred to me over the weekend that from the time she was almost a year old until now, she has not gone this long without interacting with little children at daycare. She has expressed to me as of late how unhappy she is with this situation, how things are not going well for her, and how she wants her life to go back to the way it was. Her personality is starting to become more and more the epidemy of “drama queen”. She talks back loudly and is incredibly sassy. Screaming at the top of her lungs when she has already eaten several sugars and decided (and is denied) ice cream.
The episodes are becoming more and more frequent as we get deeper and deeper into the isolation. I feel bad for her. In the beginning, I really didn’t think that the social distancing lifestyle would affect either of us this much. I figured we would just go on with our lives at home. For me, I had nothing to lose. I didn’t realize that my daughter had so much to lose. I guess I should have, I honestly thought she would like to be home all the time. Anyway, I have seen all over the web that this seems to be everyone’s problem, many people are taking social distancing hard.
If your kids are getting bored again at home, today we are introducing a few fun activities that you all might be interested in doing. One for each day this week! Let’s get started on our list shall we.
Calico Critters
I have been telling you all for the past couple of weeks that my daughter has a little table that we trade out different toys for. We keep each of her larger sets in different plastic rotation boxes. We have been rotating them every four or five days over the last few weeks and setting the sets upon the table. This week we have the Calico Critters set out. We have a handful of the calico critters babies which are usually my daughter favorites.
This week though, she has really been loving the elephant family set you can get it here! As for play places for the little critters she has the grocery store, baby train set, and the tree house. These have been amusing her for hours as she off and on sits down for some quiet playtime with the sets on the table! I defiantly recommend getting some of these for your rotation boxes if you don’t have any. Just set them up somewhere in the house for the kiddos to play with for a while. I will link all the sets that we have in our amazon picks bellow!
Ball Pits or Stuffed Animal Pit:
Last week we talked about our big, energy burning item being our indoor slide. After a few days we all tiered of the “wild side” that had developed with the slide and my daughter decided to switch it out for the ball pit! Our ball pit is a little unconventional seeing as it is an old cardboard box from a microwave filled with ball pit balls. (you see it is really easy to set up a ball pit). Her old ball pit was a blow up one that got popped by our puppy. Anyway, if you want to get some ball pit balls from amazon, you can order them in from here! Another thing you can do is to fill a box full of stuffed animals and make it a “stuffie pit”! This is a fun idea to try out!
Play-doh Bakeries:
Another Idea for your week is to set up a play-doh bakery and make cute play-doh cookies, cakes, pizzas etc. Just any kind of play-doh food you can think of. Just remember to remind them NOT to eat the play-doh if you have younger kids! We have the play-doh town set, which has lots of food molds to it!
Kids Puzzle table
Another option is to create a kid’s puzzle table! We did this over the weekend with my daughter’s art table! We had educational puzzles with the ABC’s and numbers, and other things! If you need some cool puzzles, I’ll link some below!
