Welcome back to another Friday Favorites! This week’s top of the toy box picks are toys and activity related items that help kids get active indoors. These are some great activities for kids with asthma that have limited outside time! I know over the last few weeks as spring approaches that we have been trying to go outside a little more and it doesn’t always work out that great.

Support the American Lung Association:

For those of you who haven’t been around the blog very long, my daughter has asthma and we post a lot of indoor activity ideas. Over the last few weeks we have been working our way up going outside in small increments of time. We have worked our way up to 20 minutes now. Sometimes she needs treatments and sometimes she doesn’t. It honestly just depends on which triggers are most prevalent outside at the time. This last time that we went outside for an all of 20 minutes it kinda felt like a dream. My daughter had on her little gardening gloves and was going around the yard picking those tinny wild flowers. She was absolutely thrilled by his small task. We brought some of them inside and put them in a little vase. She was so excited, I literally cannot stress this enough. I wish we could have more small moments like this one. One of the places that does asthma and allergy research is the American Lung Association. I haven’t done a plug for them in awhile, but now seems like a good time. The do research on asthma to try to find a cure, which would be perfect for kids longing to go outside but cant (or can’t be exposed too long) because of their asthma. So, if you are interested in making a donation to this kind of research you can head on over to their website here: www.lung.org.

I know we are not the only asthma family who goes through this, so I have compiled a list of super easy ways to get active indoors and burn off some of that toddler energy! So, Lets dive right into our list:

Twister!

Twister is a great way to get kids active inside! It helps with flexibility, color recognition, and it is just an all around fun game. When the normal “left hand blue, right hand green” gets boring to them you can change it up and do elbow red, nose yellow, etc. It helps them learn different body parts too! This game has way more benefits than just the “get active inside aspect! If you are looking to get this game for your kiddos you can get it here from amazon!

Bowling!

Bowling is a great way to get the whole family active indoors! My daughter loves getting to go the bowling alley! Our bowling alley is very kid friendly with an arcade section and prize booth for kids! It is also a no smoking facility! If you don’t have a bowling alley that is local then you get get your own toy bowling set for the house here! I found so many cute bowling sets though, and I’m going to go ahead and link them below in my amazon picks:

Hop Scotch!

Hop scotch is another great way to get kids active inside (and it is a lot easier on your ankles as an adult than the concrete outside version is) just saying. These indoor hopscotches are are pretty easy to set up, just like a big puzzle. They can easily be wiped down with a Clorox wipe if they get dirty (or if your annoying pet cat pukes on it). So, for us that is a total plus. It helps with number recognition as well, so it doubles as a fun educational experience for kids! Here is our exact mat on Amazon! But here is a secret, I have had this mat for over 20 years, that is how well they wear!

Yoga!

Cosmic Kids Yoga, need I say more? If you haven’t heard of this awesome yoga sequence you need to look it up on YouTube and introduce your kiddos to it! They are yoga sessions in the form of kids stories that get kids active indoors! If you want you can even get your kiddos a fun yoga mat, or two and do it along side them. I have this blue extra thick yoga mat and I absolutely love it, it really just cushions the feet! My daughter has a thinner more decorative pink one like this! Yoga is so relaxing, and a great way to keep those little legs flexible!

We also love our foam rollers and yoga blocks too! These aren’t really necessary for cosmic kids yoga, but they are just a fun additive, or a great way to keep the kiddos distracted when you are trying to do an actual yoga routine. My daughter loves stacking them and making towers!

Plate Skating!

We talked about plate skating last winter so I will go ahead and link to that article. But basically you stand on some plates and shuffle your feet around. The plates slide like skates. My daughter thought this activity was so fun! You can read more about this activity here!

Indoor Slide!

We have an indoor step 2 slide that my daughter gets hours of play time on in the afternoons. When i get out of my college classes or work early we will come home and set up this slide in the living room so she can burn off some energy! It is a fantastic way for kids to play on their own. Odiously stay in the room to make sure they are safe, but its not really a grown up activity, so you defiantly get some much needed down time.

That’s pretty much all I got today for the awesomeness that is burning off energy indoors! Tune in next week for some more toy based fun and LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW what fun indoor activities you all love doing.
