Even though my daughter is in a preschool setting and learning so much, we still work on certain things at home. I’ve come to discover that my daughters preschool isn’t very good at working on letters. It’s noting against them, I get it they have a lot of kids in varying stages and ages in the class. But with kindergarten fast approaching we want to be ahead of the game. My daughter really loves coloring, drawing, and crafting so our continued preschool lessons aren’t that big of a struggle!  Today I’ve collected for you 5 different ways that you can teach preschoolers the letter A.

We also have a free printable post card at the end. You can hang this to your fridge on the week your learning about the letter A to give you ideas and keep you on track!

1.) Sing the ABC’s

This not only helps the child learn one letter but all of them! So go for it, sing it all the time. Some examples are in the car, while brushing their teeth, while playing a game. You could even have a spontaneous letter A dance party.

2.) Hole punch the letter A.

This is my go to activity for letter sight recognition. Cut out an apple shape from any kind of paper…it doesn’t have to be a really good apple. Write letters around the edge and incorporate lots of A’s. Have your child use a child safe hole punch and put a hold in all the letter A’s. For kids who need practice with scissors or just like cutting things out then let them cut out the apple as well. Why not teach fine motor skills with letters? That’s why I love this activity!

3.) A Scavenger Hunt.

This can be kinda tricky for the letter A but have your kiddos go around your home and fill a basket with things that start with the letter A. This could be a lot of fruit such as apples and apricots. Stuffed animals work too! Get creative! Maybe your child has a doll named Annie?

4.) Trace the letter A in a fun way!

You could write a bunch of A’s out on a white board and have your child trace it. You could cut out an A and have your child fill it up with stickers. They could color an A. Whatever their level is just work with it. One other great way to get kiddos tracing and writing is to get them an early learners dry erase board book! My daughter really loves her’s.

5.) Write the letter A

Lastly if your child has mastered the pencil more than just a scribble start working with writing the letter A. You can write one first to show them how then have them write some.
