Halloween Traditons for Toddlers!

Do you believe in celebrating Halloween? I’ve seen multiple articles around the web written by Christian women on the topic, and you know what? I haven’t read a one of them! It’s not that I don’t like the authors, it’s simply that I believe Halloween (now) is just one of those silly little holidays that breaks up the normal day to day routine. Celebrating silly little holidays brings people together. So to me, since it’s nothing more than a silly holiday made for fun (these days); I decided to share with you some fun Halloween Traditons that my daughter and I have been doing for a few years!

Spook out the bathroom:

We call it our spook bathroom, and this will be our second year in a row to orchestrate it! About the beginning of October or so we go shopping at Walmart for fresh Halloween decorations!

Last year our theme was extra spooky (black and purple) with spiders and skulls. This year we went a little milder with some cute happy little ghosts, bats, and glitter pumpkins! We love decorating (and my daughter loves the unveiling) so this traditon fits right in our lives!

Pumpkin Carving:

This is pretty high on the list for everyone who celebrates Halloween! You either love it or you hate it! This year my daughter helped to do some of the actual carving! She felt like such a big girl!

My daughter helping to carve her very own spookley the square pumpkin!

Safe Door to Door Indoor Trick-or-Treat:

This one is a little unique too our family (and maybe other families who have kids with asthma). Each year since my daughter was one (so like the past three years or so) we have been doing a little indoor trick or treat on Halloween for her. We dress up in costumes and she goes around the house knocking on doors to trick or treat. In the past we’ve had a variety of people help out from Aunts and Uncles to Nana and Papa. This one is such a memorable experience that she was talking about it a full year later as we geared up for Halloween. The indoor Trick-or-Treat experience is beginning to trend though, because I have seen advertisments for some of the indoor Trunk-or Treats put on by local churches. I think this year we are going to try one of these out.  (As a disclaimer though, my daughter has tried outdoor trick or treating a couple times when the weather was nice, but we like to have our little home Halloween party too!)

Indoor Halloween Camp Out:

Yep, here is another indoor traditon! We just started this one, but I could definitely see it taking off in the future! We set up our PVC pipe tent with a gray sheet over it in the living room. Then we decked it out with spooky decorations (the decorations we later used in the bathroom). We put our freshly carved pumpkin outside and it made quite the Halloween experience! Don’t forget, no living room camp out is complete without story telling! We told spooky stories and roasted pumpkin seeds till late in the night! All while watching Halloween movies.

Thank you all for checking out our Halloween traditons! Feel free to comment below with some of your own!
