DIY Leprechaun Trap

  •

We are about two days from St. Pats day at this point, and if you house is anything like mine, your getting your Leprechaun traps ready! My daughter and I have been reading St. Pats and Leprechaun books for a few weeks now, and shes getting all geared up to catch one. While building leprechaun traps is a silly tradition sometimes, it is a tradition none the less.

Let me start out by telling a childhood memory story. I remember a time when I was in about first grade where we built leprechaun traps for school. It was such a fun movie to look back on. When we came back on St. Pats day there were chocolate gold coins everywhere. There were glitter foot prints on the windows, and walls, and all over our desks. (man our teacher worked hard.) It was kinda magical though. I loved this memory, and wanted to give my daughter similar memories of St. Pats.

Next things next, Our official leprechaun trap of the year, unveiling!

Here It Is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For this trap we plan to entice a leprechaun with free cookies and free gold. After they eat the cookies, they will fall into the box looking for the free gold. For a fun cookie recipe might a recommend modifying one of the recipes here with green food dye? For the free gold, you could use stones, and put gold glitter on them, you could also just paint them yellow. My daughter loves doing both of these things!

Now If you are looking for a good list of common house hold supplies to build your trap from (because that’s all we used). We got you covered with that as well. If you would like a visual view, we have it all laid out in this photo below. To Make it so much easier on you we also have a list of items. It makes a perfect shopping list if you are missing some of them!

Supplies for a Leprechaun Trap:

So now that you have your list of supplies for the trap, here’s some expert tips, from a mama whose been building crafts for years.

Don’t make it too complicated, this one is a give away, while this is a fun bonding activity, your kid isn’t going to want to spend all day, or multiple days on it.

Have the kids help you gather your supplies and set them out. This gives them a say on what they want to include in the trap. It also makes them use their creativity by designing something out of found objects.

If you don’t want to use paint because you don’t feel like the mess, cover large surfaces that need to be green in wrapping paper or construction paper.

Have your kids color a rainbow, it helps them learn colors, and the colors of the rainbow in order if they are old enough.

Use fun glitter glue, even if it wont show, kids love the stuff!
