I’m not a fan of the cold, or the snow. and I deeply dislike sliding around on the ice as I try to make it from class to class on campus. I’ve even gone so far as to wrap myself in a blanket scarf during classes to stay warm. While I don’t like the cold, or the cumulative piles of snow, I do love individual snow flakes. I love how each one is unique. I also love the preschool opportunities it brings us. Here are some fun winter themed preschool activities to try with your little tot. To make it extra fun, print out our free winter bucket list printable to keep track of the ones you have completed!

Make Paper Snow flakes! (Fine Moter-Skills)

This is a super classic activity, but one I would consider to be an oldie but a goodie. One beauty of this project is that it requires little to no prep work, makin it optimal for a busy schedule. As far as supplies go, all you need is folded paper and some safety scissors.

Check out this paper folding tutorial!

S is For Snow (language skills):

Oh the good letter activities. In my home they are both a blessing and a curse. With all honesty my little one gets board of them very quickly (the curse). I just love them though as a simple way to try to teach her letters to her (the blessing). This is another simple project that requires very little prep work. If you have a printer then you can print out a nice free worksheet here. If not, then grab some blank paper and a marker. Draw a big bubble S on the paper and write “is for snow” below it. Then the two of you can color it, fill in the S with stickers, or trace inside it!

Oh No its snowing! (Sensory)

Go outside an play in the snow, or bring a bowl full in and experience the feeling of the fluffy cold substance. Make some snow angels, a snow man, and take some super adorable photos!

No Snow, DIY Your Own (Sensory)

There’s a simple DIY that exists for making your own snow. All you need is shaving cream and baking soda! Mix in a small box of baking soda, and a few handfuls of shaving cream. If you want a little more accuracy, or just a full blown blog post about it, check out one here. This will give you at least an hour of snowy fun with your kiddos!

Money Snowmen (Math):

With this activity the possibilities are endless, you could use it for counting, learning the names of coins, or even adding up change, depending on the level of your child. Another simple activity that can easily fit into your schedule. Just grab all the change from your purse, and shape it into cute little snowman. Talk about any of the above concepts, and tada, you are done! simple but effective.
