I hope all of you single Mama’s are keeping your head’s high this Christmas Season. I will honestly admit to you that it is getting harder and harder for me the closer we get to Christmas. As the family begins pouring in, and they start trying to “parent” my kid, I am getting increasingly frustrated. I know I just need to brush it off, and I must remind myself that after this, I won’t have to see any of them again for months and months.
I read my daughter her bedtime stories and tucked her in early tonight to sit down and share our Christmas with you all. Tonight we read many cute Christmas stories, as well as the store of Jesus’s birth from the book of Matthew. It is a reminder that the world is so much bigger than my petty problems. Throughout this Christmas season I have read/heard two inspiring sides of the Christmas story. One from the side of Mary and the other from the side of Joseph. The girl defined ministry did a wonderful job portraying these stories in modern terms. I would really recommend it to any single mom to read. Jesus came to be our king, but when he came, he came from what was probably a teen mother, unmarried at the time of conception. God brought greatness into the world out of dire circumstances, and remember single mama, he can bring greatness out of your dire circumstances as well. This my dear ones is what Christmas is about, even with our single mom status, it’s where our hearts can be. Though the world encourages young, unmarried single moms to focus on our problems, get assistance, and settle for life, we can achieve so much more than that.
So with no further ado I would love to introduce you to the girl defined ministry (here), as well as the stories from the perspective of Mary and Joseph.
If you are in the mood to read something, check out Joseph’s side of the story here. If you are in the mood to listen/watch a mini blog, then check out Mary’s side of the story here.
Next I just wanted to catch you up on some of our lovely Christmas activities. So far all of my daughter’s presents are wrapped and she’s gotten to see Santa this year.
Even as a little tot of around three she was asking if it was the real santa, if I believe in santa, etc. She has already become a skeptic, it saddens me because I had a belief of him well into middle school. I went along with her this year encouraging her that he was, getting all hyped up about it, you could tell though she was in the “I want to believe” stage rather than the “I truly believe” stage. I kept this bit to myself. This is something I’ve been doing a lot. I feel like as she gets older she comes to me in confidence, and I don’t spread her info and conversations around to the family. What would you Mama’s do in this situation? Would you encourage a three year old to keep believing in santa?
We did make Santa’s cookies though, which turned out darling! So we made the store packages of snowman cookies and chocolate chip cookies, but then we made hot cocoa cookies from scratch, using this recipe! My daughter was a total sweetheart though, she loved setting all the cookies out on the baking sheets, and was the self proclaimed taste tester!
Of course we aren’t giving Santa all of these cookies! Boy would he be fatter after leaving our home! But we are doing several of each!
Let’s see, in other news, we set the gifts we’d gotten for family under our beautiful purple tree! Check out some of this cuteness! (Totally not bragging, I just figured I’d share a bit of life with y’all. The inside scoop into life as a single mom.)
Tonight we will be doing the Christmas traditions of setting up the plate of cookies for santa, and opening stockings as a family! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Eve!
