I decided I wanted to support several donations drives this year. I was super motivated for this drive because it was organized by a women’s organization I am in at my college, for and abused and battered women’s home. This is a topic that feels so near and dear to my heart and I encourage everyone to donate to such a cause if you can. The house needed supplies at the time I donated to the drive and I knew that the dollar tree in town sold a lot of hygiene supply’s for extremely cheap prices. So that’s where I headed first to stock up!
I started out getting hygiene supplies. Tooth brushes were a total score, I got 12 adult toothbrushes for only $3 and three kids tooth brushes for $1. I figured (but wasn’t sure) that people could share the toothpaste if push comes to shove so I got 5 tubes of toothpaste for $5. Then I hit the school supplies because the house was out of school supplies for the kids that came to live there with their mothers (often they would arrive with nothing). So, I picked up three plastic rulers, two jumbo packs of markers, a pack of twelve sparkly pencils, three jumbo boxes of crayons with sharpeners in them, two pairs of safety scissors, and three pairs of regular scissors. All the school supply haul turned out to be $12. My point in this is you can donate a lot of school supplies and consumable goods by picking them up at your local dollar shop, for a very reasonable price.
The next stop after the dollar store was my own house! The list had requested some gently used or new cloths, young adult books, and children’s cloths. Of course, being a fairly young, single mother, I have all of these items. So, I grabbed a young adult book series, and some of my dresses/jeans that I could no longer wear. As for children’s cloths I grabbed a pair of my daughter’s old shoes and a coat. I also threw in a bra that had been in my drawer for a while that I never go around to wearing.
In just two stops (one of which was my closet) my donation bundle for the drive was complete.
