Being a single mom in college is hard enough, but running a play based Preschool program (and not majoring in education) is pretty daunting. In alot of ways it’s rewarding, and fun though. Most of the time the “routine” is basically working in preschool around all the other commitments we have. So on our days off I always try to have my daughter do ABC mouse (which could be a post in itself) and then we try to do three or four play based preschool activity’s a week. So she’s getting in about 6-7 preschool sessions a week. Each session is pretty short, just because kids don’t have the longest attention span. I’ve been forgetting to put the time length and focus areas for each unit in my posts so it’s something I am trying to get back into.

Here’s our basic routine if you are wondering (and YES, we utilize weekends!):

Monday:
1 play based Preschool
ABC Mouse

Wednesday:
2 play based lessons
ABC Mouse

Friday:
ABC mouse

Saturday:
ABC Mouse
1 play based Preschool

1.) Sand Letters

Focus: Alphabet
Time: 15 minutes
So we pulled out some cute letter flash cards, and a box of sand for this project, my daughter absolutely loved drawing in the sand with a little popsicle stick, there was a few letters she could do, but often I would do them and she would trace over them in the sand. Awe sand art!

2.) Rock Garden:

Focus: Creativity, Motor Skills
Time: 20 min
Another sand activity and you really don’t need much more supplies for this one than you do the first one. Just a couple rocks and a fork. My daughter would put her rocks in and draw in the sand to make cute little rock gardens.

3.) Decorate A Shape:

Focus: Shapes
Time: 40 min
My daughter loves pulling out the dry erase board, especially when I’m studying. I will draw shapes on the dry erase board and she decorates them! I also have a small magnetic clip board with paper I draw the sales on so she can try to draw them herself. She will get her dolls out as well and have them dance on the shapes like they are on a stage.
