Goodness, so my daughter has these horrible allergies, a history of allergic reactions, and severe seasonal allergies in her three years of life. Honestly, parts of it have been terrifying! We had a scary attack while we were in Florida.
So, she began coughing one night after playing in the ocean and being outside on the beach/riding in the golf cart. She coughed through the night pretty much all night. The following day she coughed so much that she threw up. Around noon we got her into one of the clinic around the island. The Weem’s medical center. The nurses and staff there were delightful. We were given a prescription for nebulizer treatment and steroids (something’s her doctor back home had wanted her on). The doctor said only use the nebulizer if she starts struggling to breathe.
This is some seriously terrifying stuff. So, I got her to bed that night and she didn’t use the nebulizer…yet. She started gagging in her sleep. Then she was feeling, and seemed to stop breathing. I was able to wake her up, and she was breathing again and had coughed up gunk. I went ahead and gave her, her first nebulizer treatment which she didn’t like very much but didn’t appear to have any adverse side effects to. After the treatment she was up most of the night, she was still coughing a lot, and crying because she felt bad from all the coughing.
By the next morning she was better, and wasn’t really coughing that badly, but for the remainder of the vacation we had to stay inside, and didn’t do any more golf cart rides.
I am just grateful was doing better. I feel like through a good part of this trip many of us myself included had been ungrateful for it. For four out of seven days of the trip the red “no swimming” flags were out and the wind blowed steadily at 15 miles/hour. The waves were choppy and the undercurrent was strong. Anyhow the beach felt pretty cold! The seagull we’re being blow all over the place as we would try to feed them off our deck now.
Anyhow so this meant quite a few indoor beach crafts!
1.) Caterpillars
Here are these adorable pom pom caterpillars, and though ours came in a big crafting kit all you need is:
- Different sized pom poms
- Googly eyes
- Glue
- Pipe cleaners
Here’s what you do:
Glue eyes on the pom pom head, pine pipe cleaners in for the legs and antennas, and glue the body parts together!
2.) Sea stars!
These are popsicle stick sea stars arrange five popsicle sticks in the shape of a star and just glue them together, you can put a string on the top if you like to hang them up.
3.) Beach photo frames
Another great use of popsicle sticks. Glue two popsicle sticks of each side of the frame. You can then glue on some beach shells and put in your photo!
4.) ‘Squeeze the Ocean’ stress balls!
The supplies you’ll need for this are a water bottle full of beach sand, cup to poor sand into water hole, and four balloons
Pour the sand into the water bottle about half full. Then put the balloons around the top of the water bottle. Layer two balloons for extra support. Then turn the bottle upside down and squeeze it. The air will inflate the balloon and the sand will go in easily. Take the balloons off the water bottle and the them up.
The more sand and air you get in the balloon the softer the stress ball is, and of course a stress ball is a great way to unwind when you can’t actually go down to the water.
