To start out talking about our vacation today, let me just show you some of the photographs I took as we were traveling. We have country side, interesting RV’s we passed, and a few southern towns.

Now that you have seen a little bit of what I did, lets get into how our actual travels went. We started out at the early time of 9:00 am through the rolling hills of Alabama. The countryside was beautiful, and it was lovely to actually see and not be driving in the dark.

Unfortunately, pretty early on we got stuck in an almost 2-hour traffic jam! We only went 12 miles during this time. Wow that set us back white a bit but luckily, we were able to play the strawberry shortcake movie twice, and play with my daughters Barbie puppies. This was enough to keep her entertained for that time. Here are the bags we took with us, the blue one is my daughters and the tan one is mine. It was super fun to have mother daughter matching back packs for the trip.

When we stopped to get food around noon at Montgomery, Alabama. I set it beside my daughter in the seat and she said “Wooo that burnt my but like fire!” Oh, kids say the darndest things. And apparently so do Papa’s! He was a little tired, and he tried to order a small sweet tea blizzard when we stopped at DQ. Oh, you just got to love my family! (I’ll admit I’m a little tired typing up this post, so I have no idea how it will really turn out, my apologies in advance.)

After lunch we transitioned to breading bracelets! We used some pretty simple kids beads, you could pretty much pick out beads from anywhere. Ours are from the kids craft section at Walmart in case you are wondering. I’ll link a few here for you: mixed plastic crystals, and simple plastic beads

My daughter then took a small nap in the car, and we had one last stop to stretch our legs at a gas station before we caught sight of the sea, here are some beautiful images for you, and some that are very apparently from a car window.

Now for the moment you all have been waiting for….What I packed to survive a 14 hour car ride plus a 2 hour traffic jam with a toddler? I’m a first time mom and I definitely fit the stereotype for over packing on this trip. Here’s what I packed into my daughters back pack:

Since you have now seen all of the stuff I can fit into a normal sized backpack, (no bags were hurt in the making of this post, it stops just short of tearing out the seams don’t worry). I am now going to give a more outlined list with links so you can over pack like I did! Or better yet, just to give you some more ideas.

As I said eariler I over packed by a long shot, we didn’t need all this stuff and it would have been nicer to pack a much lighter bag. So, what to I recommend taking on a trip? Well just a few things from the list, actually.

List of Must Haves:

  • Tablet/portable DVD player for movies
  • Beads
  • A cute purse full of some kind of small toys, our choice was the fuzzy feeling small Barbie puppies.

Thanks to all the Mamas who came by to check out day two of our fun vacation to St. George Island. Leave me some comments of what your must have travel supplies are! Are they on my list?

Happy Travels,

Brie
