A preschool activity really doesn’t have to be expensive, or even have that much thought put into it when you are teaching two and three-year olds something like colors, tracing, counting, etc. etc.
Today we came up with this little impromptu preschool unit that was initially for teaching colors but can be expanded into teaching so much more. All of the supplies are pretty much common household items in homes with preschoolers, but they can be easily found at your local Walmart for pretty cheap, if you don’t have them. They make some great supplies for any beginner preschool program.
Supply list:
My little girl was actually the inspiration for this preschool project because she started putting stickers on the back of a paper plate. While she was doing this, we started talking about what the colors of the stickers, this kind of conversation is great for teaching little kids. It’s also a good idea to use solid colored foam stickers for this activity because they are all one color. Next, I gave her some markers and she began to trace the stickers (another reason why raised stickers are good).
For little kids between the ages of two or three this activity is fun, I know my daughter is a total sticker-holic, and it also isn’t very time consuming like a lengthy preschool activity. To enhance this activity we’ve come up with a few extra ideas for you past naming colors.
- Your child can count the stickers after they are done.
- They can name what the stickers are, in our case it would be rabbit, carrot, basket, etc.
- If you did several of these plates, you could hide them around the house and do a scavenger hunt!
I’m so glad that you’ve stumbled across the blog! Stay awhile and look around. If you are looking for some more Preschool activity ideas click here. We have everything from worksheets to play based preschool ideas. All of them are super simple and can be done with common house hold items. They can also be easily modified to fit into your life or home-school routine.
Let’s keep the conversation going, I’m sure my readers would love to hear more of your ideas on how you would enhance this craft or how you are using it in your preschool routine. I know I’d love to hear from you!
Happy Homeschooling,
