Fall Asthma Activities: For when your Asthma Kid has a Cold!

  •

The beginning of the semester, and fall have been rough for this College girl and her daughter! A glimpse in our lives could take you to an evening where my daughter was suffering from an asthma attack/cold/allergy combo. She was doing better or so I thought, we we’re starting to back off a bit on the breathing treatments she was playing, and we were no longer “swimming” in snot! And then bam, and everything just blew up. She started coughing so much she was gagging, and I had to do the emergency breathing treatments, appartment from our routine. Then about a half our later she was munching on a pizza and I thought she was wiping sauce all over her face. I cleaned her up while she was watching her movie and she did it again. This time I noticed that the sauce was comming from her nose. And it wasn’t sauce it was BLOOD. She was having a noise bleed from all the coughing, nose sprays, etc. This nose bleed took us about 15 minutes and a whole wad of bloody tissues later to get under control! Honestly I wouldn’t admit it to her but I was absolutely terrified!!!! I feel like we’ve been through so much already this year that even a cold is terrifiing! The bloody nose had a clot come out of it that was the size of her entire nostril! Which was even more terrifiing! As I laid down in bed that night, I was absolutely exhausted, and I felt like my stress level was maxed out.

So, now that you’ve had a glimpse of how my life with a child with Asthma and a cold, we will start to move on to a couple of the activities we’ve been up to, or that we are able to do during these difficult times. But first a word of encouragement to the other mother’s out there with kids this fall who have asthma: you’re not alone mama, and you can pull through!

1.) Build A Lego LOL City:

So when my tot is sick I’m a big fan of laid back activities. Being up moving around makes her cough worse. So we build an entire Lego City! Just randomly building little building, and parks and adding them to the board. It looked like a robot city from the future. My kid is one of those kids though that just love to build. We probably have some sort of blocks out every day at out house

2.) Paint nails:

This was an activity I did while she was sitting on the floor eating breakfast. When she’s sick, alot of times she’s very laid back, which makes it alot easier to paint her nails….so carpi deim right?

3.) Play with balls:

So for all you Mama’s of asthma kids out there you know that Albuterol makes your kiddos hyper! After Albuterol treatments I’ve discovered that no mater how much I please my child won’t remain calm. And it always messes up her cough. So one of our hyper activities is playing ball. We typically just roll them around the living room and it doesn’t seem to make the cough too bad.

4.) Indoor Hopscotch:

We have an indoor Hopscotch mat which my daughter loves to bonce/frolic acrossed. This one does make the cough worse. But it’s a good way to let her burn off some energy since she can’t go outside when she’s all flared up.

5.) Cuddling with movies!

This is definitely a go-to for us! We have watched the movie UP and Legends of Oz together during this spell.

Pin it and show the Love to you other asthma Mama’s!
